Yes, katz and kittenz. This is it.
This is what I worked five grueling years for.
It felt like forever, those last five years.
And in all that crap, you'd think they (Hunter College) would have given us some commemorative casing for it, or something. Instead, in was in a manilla envelope with my name and social on it. It damn near looked like it was printed on resume paper, and the only thing that I can see that's real about this degree is the stamp on the bottom.

I feel cheated somehow.

I mean, come on! I was able to take my own resume paper, and with my very own color copier/printer/scanner/fax, make exact replicas of my degree. I took it to work, and only one person (someone who graduated from Brooklyn College, no doubt) was able to tell they were fake. Sure, I already plunked out $55 to make my degree look a whole lot more fantastic than what you see above, but CUNY has to do better than that.

** retracting that last statement**

Come to think of it, they really don't have to do anything. Considering the fact that I saved a lot of cash by going to CUNY, budget cuts, technology fees, harrassment and all, they really don't have to do anything. I had it easy, finance wise. So I pay $55 to get a better looking degree...

Whatever Happens
Michael Jackson
Invincible

This was not a bad album. This is one of those albums that years after its release, I can still listen to. And God knows there are not that many albums out there in which you can say that. I remember when it first came out, people were still comparing it to Thriller, saying that we need to be thrilled again. Thriller was a lucky diamond that was taken from the rough; the album of albums, as it were. And Michael Jackson took the world by storm with that album. To expect him to recreate that is ridiculous. And I'm not saying that it's impossible, nor am I saying the music he put out since then is bad either; he has brought some great tunes on the floor since Thriller. But to compare everything he does to that album is just unfair to him. It's as though the album was his blessing, and his curse. While it made him famous, nothing else he did since then came close.
And I don't care what y'all say, Invincible is one helluvan album.

The PDA Phone War?
Ahh yes, whatever came of that? Well, let's just say that rumormill has spread vicious tales of another iPod spinoff coming this Christmas, and I decided to put the new phone on hold, okay?!
Not that I chickened out, I actually had my heart set on the Treo 600. But my only problem: no bluetooth. This means I cannot automatically link it up with my laptop, and transfer info. And with that excuse, I was armed enough to pass on the opportunity for a new phone.
On a side note, I feel kinda stupid vying for a phone with so many features I don't even use. I don't check eMail on my cell; I mean the camera's cool, but why would I browse the internet on a small screen when I have a laptop? My ideal phone has notetaking features with voice recording, camera, color screen, and bluetooth to connect to my Mac. Must I spend $300-$500 to get that, and whole bunch of other junk!?
Knowing me, yes...

Can't Satisfy Her

I've been feeling tired over the last several weeks. Not so much by work, which is going excellent; my assumption is the sleep deprivation of my five years at Hunter has finally caught up with me. I know that I've some promises to fufill, but I'm getting to them. Slowly, but surely.
Oh yeah, work. My latest iPod acquisitions after months of deliberation, were the Altec Lansing inMotion speakers, and the NaviPod wireless remote control. I bring them home, and am instantly subjected to questioning. Wasn't a mini-system with a subwoofer enough? How much did you plunk out for this one? Should we expect the new iPod next?
Yes, it was enough. For home.
$130. And that was sale price.
You know what? I think I'm finally gonna do that...
In any event, I bring it to work, my business/commercial section on the first teller window. I set it up, turn it on, and from Wednesday to Saturday, I jazz up the place with some reggae, some Maroon 5, and some John Coltrane. At first, I would let the music play in my absence, and upon my return, haters try to make me turn it off, with much emphasis on the word try. Later on, I learned not to trust others with such expensive equipment, and played my music only when I was around. Since then, not one complaint. Some questions I've been hit with about the devices:
How good is the sound? Well, I can't play the music louder than the voice of my customer, so under certain circumstances, it never bothered me. Then I got around to increasing the volume when I prove my register. After two seconds of holding the (+) button, the whole bank heard my player. I'd say it has great sound.
Was the $180 for the speakers/remote worth spending? For a speaker system designed for iPod usage, that can charge my iPod while playing, that can connect to other devices and play great sound, yes. For something I can use just to play music at a teller window in a bank, probably not.
Why do you need to buy that? I mean, isn't there a music machine or something in your bank? Nope. The curse of working at this particular branch is that there is no universal music player that plays music. Before my "defiance," there was no mental escape from the line for the customers, or the customers for us tellers at that branch. And I had to be the one who gets hired at a place that has no method of playing music. For a year, I was able to tolerate this setback. But after a year of it, and then going to other GreenPoint Banks with music, I basically decided that I had enough. With that in mind, I defied the unsaid laws of music, and played my jams.
So, if I won't be remembered for being a flirt, or being so fast and accurate, or sharp and witty with the customers, I'll be remembered for being the one teller who brought his own music station to work. Cool.
How would you rate them?
Altec Lansing InMotion Speakers - ease of use, built in amplifier, aux input, and an all-around hit in my job.
Rating: 10/10
NaviPod Wireless Remote - Controls work flawlessly. Too bad I didn't wait for speakers with their own remote control.
Rating: 9.5/10
