Mercy Mercy Me [The Ecology]
Milira
Milira
It took me forever and 15 years to finally find this artist. I kept thinking Malyra, Melira, Milyra, Melyra, Mi-liera...
I hear this song time and time again on R&B stations and Jazz stations. And they kept saying Milira, but I was like, C'mon dammit! Don't just say it, spell it!
*calming down*
In other news this week, my pop left early this morning to head back home in Trinidad for the first time in 16 years. Grandma & Grandpa, who celebrate their anniversary on Saturday, called the house to wonder what the rush was. Pop said he didn't know what to bring after all this time; he's gotta bring something for everybody. And in unison, my grandparents from T&T said to "just come. Don't bring nothing else, just come." Pop & I had one last laugh before he left on the plane. That was the power of Pop's return to Maraval.
I was flipping through the Nina Sky CD just now. No, I do not own it; someone I know decided to take a chance, as it were. And for one reason or another, I kept thinking of the "Uh-Oh" lady, Lumidee. Yeah, Lumidee. Remember her? It should be a Celebrity Deathmatch:
[Uh-Oh] Lumidee vs. [Ooh, Move Ya Body Girl] Nina Sky...
In a handicap match!!
*lol*
Back to the topic. I haven't found one other track as yet to bop to on this CD. I know success in albums when I no longer need their current hit to enjoy the album. I was jamming to Get Busy before it ever hit the charts. While everyone was Crazy In Love with Beyonce's music video, I was into Naughty Girl, which currently is the joint. I have yet to do this to Nina Sky, and I want to do this so bad. I do not want another Lumidee.
Eh, I guess summer's here. So bring on the one-hit wonders...
Speaking of music, I got beef with Turn Me On. Years ago, this song was the jump-off. When it came on, everyone was on the floor with their females; even if you didn't have one, you found one when Kevin Lyttle started screamin'. Now, that I hear the watered-down version years after its original release, nothing's changed; except the song. To the untrained ear, you wouldn't have the slightest idea what I'm talking about. But I'm telling you folks, the original version is the better version compared to what you hear now. Tis a shame that you won't hear on his new CD coming out on the 27th, but when I hear this new version out now, I can't dance the same way I did years ago. But who cares, right?
That's music politics for you.
What's more, I hear that the music world is once again rediscovering Rupee. I thought that this would've been accomplished with Thisisrupee.com, but I guess I was wrong. Nonetheless, I'll probably buy the new CD; even though 75% of it might be old material...
Stuck On You
Frankie Paul
Still no luck with Conroy Smith's Uptown Girl. But like Lazy Nina, I won't give up...
I had to put one important update to this blog. I no longer go to Hunter, I just graduated baby! So I didn't leave any doubts in your heads...
And dear God. How can you let me forget...
Happy Belated Tavie Day!!!
Fruitcake.
That's what those GreenPoint jabronies want to call me now. And I ain't trying to hear it. So I stopped it at the source (the old timer, who else?) by comparing her voice and behaviour to that of a special ed student. Talk about a conniption?!
She went in a rage, told everyone she could call, and in turn, they call me, alerting me to her sensitivity. I would care, but I have a principle: I never do to you what I don't want you to do to me. And if you can't take it, don't dish it out. But somehow, after all is said and done, it's still my fault.
Well fuckers, looks like I ain't givin' y'all anymore overtime...
I received some emails from katz about my Bill Cosby opinion. I guess I was siding too much with Cosby for them to think I was a bit biased in my opinion. And I will admit, it does sound like he's bashing the poor. But remember...
Not all poor act like they're from the projects. Not all poor speak like delinquents.
Doc Cos was really attacking da ghetto people.
And it's a funny thing too, wasn't he a part of the jive-talkin' ghetto of way back when? Uptown Saturday Night, anyone?! So what I've heard of the movie!? Don't you have parents that lived in that era?
My guess is that he was the most civilized of the jive-talkers.
I realign myself with him again.
Bitches Brew
Miles Davis
Bitches Brew
When I showed mom my newly replaced Bitches Brew CD, she balked. Her reason? She heard her father play it sooo many times, she got freaked out. And now, she must endure me playing it sooooo many times. I love mi mum.
And her birthday's coming soon.
Let's see if she plays nice to get a good gift.
Until then, later guys!
