Bob Hope:
1903-2003
Shizzle my nizzle, da Kat unda da Kangol cap is still kickin!
Okay, that was a weird way to start my weekly banter off, but I always said I'd try something new. Other than work and parental-carbon-based-units and such, nothing new is happening here. So much so, I actually have taken the time to realize...
We lost Bob Hope!
I remember the dude when I was 10, watcing his little humourous yearly shows on NBC. He had a couple of jokes, nothing to major. He softly rubbed his humour on me over the years; I am glad though he did live to see 100. Very few guys in the 20-21st century can do that.
Also of note, a week back I happened to turn to Sesame Street, yes Sesame Street, and it was the episode with Celia Cruz performing 'for' Elmo. I didn't listen to salsa music that much, but when it plays, I usually hear her. And now, I come to find out that we lost her too!
It just two years ago that I watched Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird; and it was a couple of months ago that we lost him as well (April 5, 1916 - June 12, 2003). And dude, they even took Barry White from us.
Barry White.
9/12/1944 - 7/4/2003.
Man.
Speaking of great entertainers,
There's Nothing Better Than Love
Luther Vandross with Gregory Hines
The Essential Luther Vandross
...Ooh love wakes me up everyday
And I thought no one would ever make me feel this way
It feels me up everytime I hear her say
She's still in love and no one will take her love away
Chorus:
I wanna be love
There's nothing better than love
What in the world could you ever be thinking of
It's better by far
So let yourself reach for that star
And go no matter how far to the one you love
To love...
Gregory Hines
2/14/1946 - 8/9/2003
Of all the ones we lost, I will miss you most...
